On the weekend, an unexpected event took place at the 2024 Professional Bull Riding World Finals held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Two cowboys were seen playing chess on the big screens during the most prestigious event of the year for PBR.
World number eight bull rider Brady Fielder and his fellow Australian cowboy Callum Miller participated in a promo clip announcing PBR’s collaboration with Chess.com. Both of them are known to be fans of the game, with Fielder being a regular user on Chess.com, and he emerged as the winner in their chess match.
Fielder also performed well in the bull riding competition on the final championship Sunday of the season. He achieved a third-place aggregate finish and won $178,600, while Miller secured the 42nd position in the overall season standings and received $21,500 in prize money.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s Cassio Dias made history by winning the 2024 PBR World Champion title and Rookie of the Year award, becoming only the second rider to achieve both honors in a single season. Despite his success in bull riding, there was still much speculation about how skilled he was in playing chess.
