Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell requested that the judge dismiss the charges against Scheffler after reviewing the case thoroughly and expeditiously. In a brief hearing that lasted less than ten minutes, O’Connell stated that they could not proceed with prosecuting Scheffler based on the totality of the evidence. He also mentioned that Scheffler’s explanation of the incident as ‘a big misunderstanding’ was supported by the evidence.
