Shocked Chile: 3 Police Officers Killed in Brutal Attack, Carabineros Arrest Three Suspects

Three Mapuches radicalized after police murder are apprehended

As the nation mourns the three police officers who were brutally murdered in southern Chile, the Carabineros have arrested three suspects in connection with the crime. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, is being investigated as a terrorist attack and has shocked the country.

The Carabineros have identified radicalized Mapuche sectors as potential perpetrators of the crime. However, the government is not ruling out other leads. The intense police operation that led to the triple arrest took place in Cañete, a region known for frequent clashes between violent sectors of the Mapuche community and State forces.

President Gabriel Boric described the incident as a “terrorist attack” and stated that he would use all legal tools to ensure those responsible face justice amidst a strong security crisis in the country. The town of Cañete is located about 500 kilometers south of Santiago and is known for its violent groups linked to the Mapuche sector, as well as lumber and drug smuggling mafias.
