Since the incident, there has been increased preparedness at the complex with the Kanawha County Commission working to update safety protocols.
Commissioner Salango stated that patrol has been increased at the park and surrounding areas in Dunbar and Institute. Additionally, exit gates are being installed that will automatically lock when closed, providing an additional layer of security at Shawnee.
