Shaping the Future of Environmental Education: The Importance of the AC-ERE Advisory Committee

NSF’s Office of Integrative Activities (OD/OIA) Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education

The AC-ERE, or the Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education, plays a crucial role in ensuring effective collaboration between environmental science, engineering, and education. Comprised of scientists from diverse disciplines, the committee works closely with other NSF advisory committees to integrate and manage environmental programs within the Agency.

One of the primary areas of interest for the AC-ERE is environmental education. The committee recognizes the importance of educating future generations about environmental issues and works to develop innovative educational programs that incorporate cutting-edge technologies and best practices. Additionally, the committee has a keen interest in digital libraries, cyberinfrastructure, interdisciplinary programs, centers, and major instrumentation.

The AC-ERE holds meetings three times annually to assess and critique policies and program opportunities that are centered on environmental research and education. This regular review process allows the committee to stay up-to-date on developments in the field and ensure that environmental programs are aligned with the latest technologies and best practices. By bringing together experts from various fields, the AC-ERE plays an essential role in shaping the future of environmental research and education.
