SGMC Health Honors Heather Grenat for Her Exceptional Contributions in Promoting Reliability and Safety

SGMC Health Recognizes Grenat with Safe Care Award

SGMC Health recently honored Heather Grenat with its Safe Care Award for her exceptional contribution to ensuring safety and high reliability principles within the health system. Grenat, who works in the operating room at SGMC Health’s Smith Northview Campus, was nominated by a colleague who highlighted her attention to detail and critical thinking skills that prevented a negative outcome.

The health system is currently undergoing the process of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO) that focuses on a culture of safety and unwavering dedication to quality. This process encourages all members of the health system to actively participate in promoting reliability and discussing potential risks and concerns openly.

According to Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Pankaj Agrawal, MD, Grenat’s initiative in raising awareness of a situation and questioning it led to a better experience for the patient and increased awareness about possible improvements across the system. Nominees for SGMC Health’s Safe Care Award should exhibit attributes such as exemplary adherence to safety protocols, proactive hazard identification and reporting, continuous improvement initiatives, advocacy for safety culture, and mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Nominations for the Safe Care Award can be submitted online at sgmc.org/recognition by patients, their family members, colleagues, or managers and directors. To learn more about SGMC Health and its recognition programs, visit sgmc.org.
