The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program offers exceptional financial support to U.S. accredited institutions, specifically to students pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in STEM disciplines. This year, seven MU students and alumni were chosen for the program, while five others received honorable mention.
Among the recipients are Jacob Search in mechanical engineering and materials science, Mason Ward in wildlife and fisheries science, Yousuf El-Jayyousi in neuroscience, Kristen Barwick in biochemistry, Marissa LaMartina in biological sciences, Campbell Sweet in chemical engineering, and Laurie Agosto in biological sciences. These students will receive three years of financial support with an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to their respective institutions.
India Joy Matthews was recognized with honorable mention for her work in psychology, as did Christopher Zobek for his efforts in the pathobiology area program, Melissa Draves for her plant, insect, and microbial sciences research, Brooke Bowman for her work in biological sciences, and Karen Talley for her contributions to human development and family science.
Overall, these recipients and honorable mentions represent a diverse group of both current students and alumni who are dedicated to advancing knowledge through their research pursuits.
