Serena Williams Eyes Investment in WNBA amidst Women’s Sports Surge: A Safe Bet for the Future of Basketball.

Serena Williams, a tennis legend and 23-time Grand Slam champion, is considering investing in the rise of women’s basketball. With an estimated net worth of $290 million, Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have already invested in multiple sports ventures in Los Angeles, including Angel City FC of the National Women’s Soccer League and the Los Angeles Golf Club.

In an interview with CNN, Williams expressed her willingness to invest in a WNBA team, stating that she would be “absolutely” interested in the right market. While she did not specify her interests in investing in the WNBA, she acknowledged the league’s expansion to the Bay Area alongside the Golden State Warriors. Williams highlighted the importance of lifting up women’s sports like women’s soccer and basketball to reach the same platform that tennis has achieved internationally.

Williams emphasized the momentum in women’s sports and the opportunities for growth and success. She pointed to the increased viewership of women’s sports events like the NCAA women’s national championship as evidence of this momentum. She dismissed the idea of risks involved in investing in women’s basketball, stating that it is an “overly safe bet” due to the excitement and appeal of women’s sports.
