Serbian Man Linked to Wife’s Disappearance in Spain: A Look at the Search for Evidence

Investigators are looking into the mysterious disappearance and possible murder of Ana K., as her husband may have transferred her body in a suitcase to Serbia.

Belgrade, Serbia- David Knežević, a Serbian citizen and husband of Ane Knežević, disappeared on February 2 in the Madrid neighborhood of Salamanca. In May, he was arrested on suspicion of being connected to the disappearance of his ex-wife. According to Blic, Knežević rented a Peugeot 308 car in Belgrade and traveled to Madrid, returning to Belgrade on February 5 and returning the rented car on February 15. Upon returning the car, the owner of the agency noted changes like tinted windows, altered license plate frames, and missing stickers.

The Spanish and Serbian police are collaborating to reconstruct Knežević’s movements in Serbia during that period. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from highways he traveled on and locations he frequented in Belgrade. The General Commissariat of the Judicial Police from Spain has also come to Serbia to investigate Knežević’s activities after his return.

In Miami, Florida, where Knežević was taken into custody on May 4 suspected of kidnapping his wife, Ana Knežević, authorities are searching for evidence linking him to her disappearance. Ana is a Colombian-born US citizen who lived in the USA since 2008 and recently moved to Madrid after separating from David. They were in the process of divorcing and shared significant assets which David allegedly attempted to sell. The court refused bail twice due to concerns about his potential to flee.
