Serbia Coach Dragan Stojkovic Signs Contract Extension: Road to Euro 2024 and Beyond

Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic has signed a contract extension until 2026, confirmed by the country’s football federation (FSS) on Thursday. This announcement comes after Stojkovic led Serbia to two major tournaments in a row – the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the upcoming European championships – for the first time in the country’s history.

In a statement, the FSS expressed their ambitions for the future and stated that extending cooperation with coach Stojkovic aligns with those goals. As head of the Serbian national team since 2021, Stojkovic brings extensive experience both as a player and coach to his coaching work. As a player, he made 84 appearances for Yugoslavia between 1983 and 2001 and was one of the first top-tier European players to play in Japan.

Stojkovic spent eight years at J-League side Nagoya Grampus Eight before transitioning into coaching. After retiring from playing, he briefly served as chairman of Red Star Belgrade before returning to Nagoya as a coach. From 2016 to 2020, Stojkovic was in charge of Chinese side Guangzhou, where he continued to build his coaching career. This extension signifies a commitment from Stojkovic and the FSS to further develop Serbia’s success on the international stage.

Group C rivals also include Slovenia and Denmark, so Stojković will have more work ahead of him beyond Euro 2024 tournament where Serbia’s first match will be against England in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on June 16th.
