Senegal Achieves First Oil from Sangomar Field, Marking a New Era for Its Oil Industry

Sangomar in Senegal celebrates Woodside’s first oil production

Woodside has successfully achieved first oil from the Sangomar field offshore Senegal, marking a major milestone for the country’s oil industry. The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 is a deepwater project that includes a stand-alone floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility with a capacity of 100,000 bpd and subsea infrastructure designed for subsequent development phases.

The achievement of this milestone marks a new era for Senegal’s industry, economy, and people. Thierno Ly, General Manager of PETROSEN E&P, expressed satisfaction in reaching this milestone, stating that it demonstrates the commitment of teams who have overcome challenges to meet strategic objectives in a complex environment.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill described this milestone as historic for Senegal and Woodside, reflecting the company’s strategy and expected shareholder value generation within the production sharing contract terms. The successful delivery of Senegal’s first offshore oil project amidst global challenges reflects Woodside’s world-class project execution capabilities and the strong relationships formed with PETROSEN, the Senegalese government, and key contractors.
