Senator Marsha Blackburn has announced her intention to block Senate business that deals with White House initiatives in response to the 34-count conviction of former President Donald Trump. Last week, Trump was convicted on 34 counts related to violating New York business laws in connection to a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
Blackburn joined seven other senators in signing a letter that criticized the Biden administration for orchestrating the judicial proceeding and accused them of making a “mockery of the rule of law” in un-American ways. The senators have pledged to block non-security funding increases, spending bills that fund “partisan lawfare,” political and judicial appointments, and attempts to expedite Democratic bills that they believe are not related to the safety of the American people.
Democratic state Representative Gloria Johnson, who is running against Blackburn this year, criticized the pledge, stating that it is “beneath the dignity” of a U.S. senator. However, Blackburn and her fellow senators stand firm in their belief that the Biden administration’s actions are an attack on democracy and will not be tolerated. They are determined to use their positions of power to protect America from further division and ensure that justice is served for all citizens.
