US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a surprise visit to Kiev today where he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amidst the ongoing offensive by Russia in Kharkiv. In other news, Russian Defense Ministry reported today that they had intercepted and shot down 25 Ukrainian missiles over the Belgorod border region. Tass news agency confirmed the incident. Additionally, 19 people were killed in an attack in Belgorod which Moscow attributed to Kiev.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China next Thursday and Friday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This will be Putin’s first trip abroad since taking office last Tuesday. The two leaders are expected to sign a joint statement and several bilateral agreements during their meetings.

A Russian freight train derailed in the Volograd region last night after reportedly being hit by a drone. Two tank cars caught fire and one exploded, with a total of nine carriages derailing. Initial reports suggested that there were no injuries, but rail traffic in the area has been suspended, causing delays for passenger trains.
