In the midst of harsh weather conditions, rescue teams were faced with a daunting task in locating the missing helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi and his Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian. The incident took place in the Dezmar Forest between Varazgan and Julfa, 600 kilometers northwest of Tehran on the border with Azerbaijan, according to BBC Persian.
The helicopter carrying the Iranian president was lost during a trip to East Azerbaijan Province. The Friday Imam of Tabriz was also on board the helicopter, part of a presidential convoy of three helicopters. Two of the helicopters safely returned to Tabriz, but the third carrying Raisi was missing.
Rescue teams had to contend with challenging weather conditions as they searched for the missing aircraft. Despite efforts by rescue teams, it has not been confirmed whether President Raisi was on board at the time of the incident. However, operations are still ongoing to locate the missing helicopter and its passengers.
President Raisi was traveling to Azerbaijan to open a dam with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and unveil several other joint development projects along the Aras River. Despite the tragic accident, efforts continue to search for the missing helicopter and its passengers.
