Sean Baker’s Film ‘Anora’ Receives Standing Ovation For 10 Minutes At Cannes World Premiere

Sean Baker returned to the Cannes Film Festival with his latest film, Anora, a romantic dramedy set in New York. The movie tells the story of a Brooklyn stripper who transforms into a modern-day Cinderella when she meets the son of a Russian oligarch. After its world premiere screening, the film received a 10-minute ovation from the audience.

Anora follows the journey of its protagonist as she falls in love with and marries the son of a Russian oligarch. However, complications arise when the parents of the son try to annul the marriage. The film features impressive performances from an ensemble cast that includes Mikey Madison, Yuriy Borisov, Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan.

Neon has acquired North American rights to Anora and plans to release it in the U.S later this year. Meanwhile, FilmNation Entertainment is seeking worldwide rights for the film at Cannes. The movie has been well-received at the festival and is expected to continue Sean Baker’s successful track record as a filmmaker, following up on previous hits like Red Rocket.
