Scott Drew Stays at Baylor: Joining the Ranks of Recent Rejecters of Kentucky

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew Declines Offer from Kentucky and Commits to Staying at Baylor

Scott Drew is a highly respected men’s college basketball coach who has won a national title in his career. Currently, he serves as the head coach at Baylor University and has been with the program since 2003. Recently, there were rumors that he might be replacing John Calipari at Kentucky. However, after reportedly turning down an offer from Kentucky, Drew announced that he will remain with Baylor.

In a statement on social media, Drew expressed his commitment to putting Jesus first, then others, then ourselves. He stated that he and his family feel called to continue their work at Baylor, surrounded by the best people and community. Despite Kentucky’s interest in him as a potential replacement for Calipari, Drew ultimately decided to stay at Baylor.

Drew’s decision to stay at Baylor makes him the fourth high-profile current or former coach to dismiss a potential move to Kentucky in recent years. Other coaches who have rejected opportunities at Kentucky include Nate Oats from Alabama, Dan Hurley from UConn, and Jay Wright, the former Villanova coach. Over the course of his 21 seasons at Baylor, Drew has built an impressive record and achieved numerous honors and awards.

Despite some speculation about his future with the Bears following their NCAA tournament victory in 2021, Drew remains committed to leading the team and working towards bringing more championships to Waco. With his proven track record of success and dedication to his faith and community, it’s likely that Drew will continue to be a force in college basketball for years to come.
