Scotland’s Dominance in Men’s Curling World Championship: Facing Tough Competition and Reclaiming the Title

Scotland starts off strong at World Men’s Curling Championship, winning their first two games to defend their title

Scotland’s team of skipper Tommy Flecknoe, third Thomas Muirhead, second Craig Wilson, and lead James Carson faced tough competition in the first day of the World Men’s Curling Championship. The Scots played some excellent shots to gain momentum and take the lead against their opponents from Korea. Despite not knowing the condition of the ice beforehand, they quickly adapted to the conditions and scored three points at the third and fifth ends against Park’s Koreans. This set them up for a victory that they secured with a double at the seventh end.

Next, Scotland faced a US team led by 2018 Olympic winning skip John Shuster. The team of Mouat, Hammie McMillan, Grant Hardie, and Bobby Lammie is ranked second in the world this year and faced tough competition from Italy’s rink, led by bronze medallist Joel Retornaz, who currently tops the rankings. Despite being ranked sixth in Canada, they are represented by 2017 world champions Brad Gushue who are seeking redemption after losing to Mouat in the final last season.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s games, Mouat expressed confidence in their ability to maintain their momentum and make a strong statement in the competition. As of now, Scotland and Canada currently lead the round-robin with two wins each while Italy has won only one game so far.
