Scientific Approaches to Wildlife Conservation: The Senate Weighs in on Gray Wolf Delisting and Agricultural Sustainability Efforts

The Senate is now considering the “Trust the Science Act,” a bill that aims to remove Endangered Species Act protections for the gray wolf. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse has expressed his support for the bill, stating that the gray wolf population has recovered and that science-based approaches should be used for delisting instead of using the ESA as a weapon against private landowners.

Meanwhile, at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) is showcasing equipment manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, and innovators who are working to make agriculture more sustainable with less environmental impact. The NAAA will demonstrate a Bell Jet Ranger Helicopter equipped with a liquid spray system for applying crop protection materials.

In response to bird flu outbreaks in dairy cattle, the U.S. government is collecting samples of ground beef from retail stores in affected states to ensure the safety of the meat supply. While both the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization have stated that there is a low public health risk associated with bird flu exposure to those who have not been exposed to infected animals, they recommend caution and advise against consuming ground beef from retail stores in affected states until further notice.
