Science, Politics and Philosophy: Unraveling the Complexity of Certainty with Proof by Adam Kucharski

The Bookseller Presents a Profile on Adam Kucharski’s New Book Exploring the Science of Certainty

Profile Books has acquired the rights to publish Proof: The Uncertain Science of Certainty by Adam Kucharski. The deal was negotiated by publishing director Cecily Gayford and editorial director Izzy Everington, who obtained world all-language rights from Peter Tallack at Curious Minds.

The synopsis of Proof questions how we determine what is true, with Kucharski exploring over 2,000 years of history and science to find answers. In this ambitious book, Kucharski delves into fields such as science, politics, philosophy, and economics to uncover how truth emerges and why it sometimes fails to do so.

Evertingon expressed excitement about working on Proof, calling it Kucharski’s most ambitious book yet. By examining the evolution of truth and facts across different disciplines and eras, Proof is described as a book that addresses humanity’s quest to comprehend the world we live in.

Kucharski, an associate professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and a TED senior fellow, revealed that his work has led him to investigate pandemics and combat misinformation. He highlighted the importance of understanding how to distinguish truth from fiction, persuade others of its validity, and address the consequences of failed methods. As truth becomes increasingly fragmented and certainty more elusive, Kucharski sees Proof as an indispensable resource for navigating the complexities of our modern times.

In addition to its world rights acquisition by Profile Books, US rights for Proof have also been sold to Basic Books. The publication date for this highly anticipated book is March 2025.
