School District Technology Levy Election Results in Tie: Recount Planned

West Valley to conduct a recount of ballots in technology levy election

In a surprising turn of events, the West Valley School District’s technology levy election has resulted in a tie, forcing a recount of the ballots during a school board meeting on Friday. The vote count was initially determined to be 959 to 958 in favor of the 10-year, $83,000 technology levy. However, after provisional ballots were resolved, the vote count changed to 960 to 960.

The district had proposed the technology levy as a way to fund new technology initiatives and improvements to existing systems. If passed, homeowners with homes valued at $300,000 could expect an annual tax increase of $15.60, while those with homes valued at $600,000 would see an increase of $31.21. In addition to the technology levy, there was also a general fund levy that was approved by voters with a vote count of 978 to 944 after resolving two provisional ballots. The tax increase for homes valued at $300,000 would be $65.24 annually and for homes valued at $6
