Scarlett Johansson Joins Gareth Edwards-Led Jurassic World Reboot at Universal: What You Need to Know

Scarlett Johansson is set to join the Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic World reboot at Universal. The news comes after months of speculation and has been confirmed by multiple sources. This new project marks a major move for Johansson, who previously starred in Marvel’s Black Widow franchise and famously sued Disney over the 2021 pandemic release of that movie, which was ultimately settled between the two sides.

The latest iteration of Jurassic World is being written by David Koepp, who adapted the first Jurassic Park from Michael Crichton’s classic novel. This new movie takes a fresh approach to the Jurassic era, but original cast members such as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to return. Similarly, actors Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill from the original trilogy are also not expected to make a comeback.

The production of Jurassic World is being led by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing through Kennedy-Marshall. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project at Universal. The Jurassic Park franchise has been around for over 30 years and has grossed $5.67 billion at the global box office, with iconic films such as the original 1993 film directed by Spielberg leading the way.
