This is a historic first for Latin America and brings the event to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in its 55-year history. The federal and city governments have allocated $134 million for the World Games, which are expected to attract over 6,000 Special Olympics athletes from more than 170 countries. Santiago recently hosted the Pan American and Parapan American Games, investing $507 million in venues for the event.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Paris Paralympic Games are launching an advertising campaign to boost ticket sales for the event taking place this August and September. So far, only 300,000 tickets have been purchased by the public out of a total of 900,000 sold. The French public sector organizations and the Olympic and Paralympic committees have purchased the remaining 600,000 tickets to support the event.
