Salt Lake City Council Plans to Revitalize Downtown with Sports and Entertainment District

Proposal for Major Face-Lift for SLC’s Delta Center in Sports District

The Salt Lake City Council is currently considering a plan to create a sports and entertainment district that will revitalize the downtown area. During a presentation, Mike Maughan, an executive from Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), shared the vision for the district. The plan includes a new arena entrance leading to a plaza and renovations to the Delta Center, which are expected to begin in April of next year.

Maughan emphasized the importance of creating gathering spaces for the community and ensuring benefits for residents, even if they don’t purchase tickets to the events held in the district. SEG has committed to contributing over $3 billion of its own money to the project, which will be built on two blocks east of the Delta Center. The funding for the project will come from a half-a-percentage-point sales tax increase in Salt Lake City.

The proposed sports and entertainment district aims to transform downtown Salt Lake City into a vibrant hub of entertainment and community gatherings. With plans for a renovated entrance to the Delta Center, a new plaza, residential tower, and hotel, this district will provide residents and visitors with dynamic space where they can come together to enjoy events and activities.
