Several Salem area track and field athletes stood out during the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene over the weekend. The top performers included Mihaly Akpamgbo, Jackie Bier, Nelida Dalgas, Hadley Hughes, and Avery Meier. Each of these athletes is being considered for Maps Credit Union High School Athlete of the Week honors.
Mihaly Akpamgbo, a sophomore from West Salem, improved his 200 meter time to 21.53 seconds, finishing second in the event at the Oregon Relays. He also ran a personal best 10.77 in the 100-meter prelims.
Jackie Bier, a senior from North Salem, won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.95 seconds during a dual meet against McNary High School. She anchored North’s 4×100 relay team at the Oregon Relays and currently holds the fastest state-leading time this season in her event.
Nelida Dalgas, a sophomore from North Salem, finished seventh at 2 miles with a time of 10 minutes and 44 seconds at the Oregon Relays. She also set a new personal best time in the 3,000 meters event with a mark of 9 minutes and 57 seconds at the Meet of Champions last weekend.
