The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Galuzin, spoke out in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, emphasizing the importance that Moscow places on its relations with Yerevan. According to Galuzin, Russia seeks to build these relationships on a foundation of mutual respect and mutual benefit. He criticized the West for using Armenia as a tool in a “hybrid war” against Russia and other countries in the South Caucasus.
Galuzin believes that Western capitals are leveraging Armenia’s socio-economic situation and security for their own interests. He warned that the West is pressuring Armenia to sever ties with Moscow and move towards European integration. Galuzin emphasized that such a move could have negative consequences for Armenia’s economy, as Russia provides a significant market for Armenian businesses.
Despite tensions within the CSTO following Azerbaijan’s attack on Armenia in 2022, Prime Minister Pashinyan hinted at the possibility of leaving the bloc. Pashinyan announced that Yerevan’s membership in the CSTO was de facto frozen and did not rule out the possibility of Armenia leaving the alliance. Moscow has expressed hope that Armenia will prioritize its relations with Russia in terms of sovereignty, security, and economic development.
