Russia’s Army Enlistments Surge in Response to Moscow Theater Attack as Country Increases Military Presence

Thousands Enlisted in Russian Army to Seek Revenge for Moscow Terrorist Attack

Over the past 10 days, Russia has seen a surge in enlistments for its army, with more than 16,000 citizens signing up to join as professional soldiers. Many of these individuals expressed a desire to avenge victims of terrorism, particularly those affected by the recent tragedy in Moscow on March 22.

In response to the tragic event at the Crocus City Hall theater, which resulted in numerous casualties, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has announced plans to establish two combined military groups and 30 new units this year. The Russian government has accused Western and Ukrainian intelligence of supporting the attackers and has made arrests in connection with the incident.

IS-K, the Afghan branch of the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the attack while Ukraine denied any involvement. The Russian government has yet to provide specific evidence to support its claims regarding the involvement of Western and Ukrainian intelligence. The situation remains tense as the Russian army continues to mobilize more professional soldiers to address security concerns and potential threats.
