Russian court orders journalist’s detention for ties to Navalny’s NGO

A Moscow court has ordered preventive detention for journalist Antonina Favorskaya, who is accused of participating in an extremist organization linked to the Anti-Corruption Foundation led by late opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Judge Elena Lenskaya of Moscow’s Basmanny Court made the decision during a closed-door session. The journalist will be held in preventive detention until May 28, according to TASS news agency.

Favorskaya was arrested after spending ten days in administrative arrest at Sakharovo prison on charges of police disobedience related to protests following Navalny’s death. She is specifically charged under article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code. During her arrest, searches were conducted at her home and the homes of two other journalists, Alexandra Astakhova and Anastasia Musatova, in connection with the same case.

In addition to covering all of Navalny’s trials and recording his final video before his death in a remote Arctic prison in February, Favorskaya had also been working on a variety of articles and guides on different topics such as calibrating iPhone batteries, viewing top artists on Spotify, and using various apps for different purposes.
