Rover Takes Sample from Dazzling Martian Outcrop on Sol 1249

Sol 1250: Initiating Contact Science Operations

On Sol 1249, the rover successfully completed its drive and reached an area with multiple bright bedrock outcrops. Among these outcrops, a large one partially visible on the left side of the image above has been selected as the target for dumping and examining a sand sample over the weekend.

To reach this target, ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the bedrock named “Kuiseb” will be conducted. The rover will then reverse slightly to the left and move forward to position the large outcrop within reach of its robotic arm. Once in place, extensive images of the workspace will be taken to aid in selecting dump and contact science targets for tomorrow.

It’s important to note that these dates for planned rover activities can change due to various factors such as the Martian environment, communication relays, and the status of the rover. Plans may need to be adjusted accordingly to ensure mission success.
