Rostov Hostage Situation: Prisoners Accused of Terrorism Demand Release amid Clashes with Guards

Prisoners with ISIS ties in Rostov-on-Don hold hostages at pre-trial detention center

On Sunday, June 16, a group of prisoners at Rostov-on-Don’s pre-trial detention center No. 1 took two employees hostage, demanding transport and armed with knives, sharpeners, fire axes, and rubber batons taken from the guards. Negotiations are currently ongoing to free the hostages.

According to sources in law enforcement agencies cited by TASS, the prisoners involved in the hostage situation are accused of terrorist crimes, including connections with the Islamic State. Further information is still being clarified. Additionally, a Telegram channel called 112 has published footage featuring statements from the terrorists who were arrested in 2022 for planning to blow up the Supreme Court of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in Russia.
