The largest locomotive in the world visits the biggest rail yard in the west

The City of Roseville is excited to host the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, Big Boy No. 4014, as part of its Summer 2024 tour. As a premier railroad city on the West Coast and home to the largest rail yard in the West, Roseville is embracing its rail heritage by organizing special events and exhibits for the occasion.

Roseville is preparing for Big Boy’s arrival on July 12th, with the city kicking off its events at 9 a.m. on July 13th in the Vernon Street Town Square located in downtown Roseville. Attendees can enjoy live music, food trucks, a splash pad, a farmers market, and a kid’s zone. The Black Flag Gang will also perform special old west shows that are known for their appearances at various historical events in the region.

The Carnegie Museum in Roseville’s historic old town district will showcase a special exhibit on Big Boy No. 4014 during this time. The museum, named after railroad tycoon Andrew Carnegie and home to the Roseville Historical Society, features items related to the city’s rich rail history including artifacts from significant events like the 1973 railyard explosion.
