Midway Point at Pinehurst: Ludvig Åberg in Solo Lead heading into Round 3 of U.S. Open

In the midst of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, Ludvig Åberg holds a commanding 5-under lead after shooting a 1-under 69 on Friday. This is his first appearance in the tournament and he aims to become the first rookie to win in over a century. Matthieu Pavon came close to tying Åberg but two late bogeys caused him to fall two shots behind.

Despite Åberg’s advantage, several big names are still in contention for the title. Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, and Thomas Detry are all at 4-under, while Rory McIlroy, Matthieu Pavon, and Tony Finau are just three strokes behind at 3-under. Scottie Scheffler barely made it through qualifying and is currently at 5-over, effectively ending his chances of winning the tournament. Tiger Woods narrowly missed out on qualifying for the weekend rounds.

The third round of the U.S. Open will begin just before 8:45 a.m ET with Åberg and DeChambeau teeing off around 3:30 p.m ET. Here’s a look at the tee times for the third round of the U.S Open:
