The T20 World Cup squad for India has been finalized by the Senior Selection Committee, with the tournament set to take place in the West Indies and the United States of America from June 2024. In a close competition for the second wicket-keeper spot, Sanju Samson was chosen over KL Rahul, while Rishabh Pant made his comeback after a long absence due to a car accident in December 2022. Samson’s impressive performance in the ongoing IPL, where he has scored 385 runs at a strike-rate of 161.09, has earned him a spot in the team as a transformed T20 batsman.

Despite his recent poor form in the IPL while leading Mumbai Indians, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was retained as the vice-captain for the T20 World Cup squad. On the other hand, Shubman Gill, who is struggling as captain of Gujarat Titans in the IPL, was named among the standbys along with Rinku Singh from Kolkata Knight Riders. India’s campaign in the World Cup will kick off with a match against Ireland on June 5, followed by a highly anticipated match against Pakistan on June 9, both to be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Subsequent matches against USA and Canada are scheduled for June 12 and 15 respectively.

The squad for India’s T20 World Cup campaign includes Rohit Sharma (Captain), Hardik Pandya (Vice Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel
