Rodeo Goalie: Carolina Hurricanes Make Last-Minute Change in Goalkeeper for Game 3 against New York Rangers

Canes Switch Goalies for Game 3, Start Pyotr Kochetkov in Net

In Game 3 of the second-round series against the New York Rangers, the Carolina Hurricanes will be starting goalie Pyotr Kochetkov as they look to mount a comeback. The decision was made by Coach Rod Brind’Amour just seven hours before the game.

The reason for this change was due to the heavy workload of previous goalie, Andersen, who had allowed eight goals on 62 shots in the first two games against the Rangers. Brind’Amour felt it was important to give him a break due to his recent health issues and numerous games played since his return in March.

Kochetkov, a 24-year-old rookie with NHL experience, had not played since April 14, making him a fresh option for Game 3. Brind’Amour expressed hope that Kochetkov would have a great game and emphasized the importance of having a fresh player in goal.

In addition to Kochetkov, Russian player Evgeny Kuznetsov will also return to the lineup after being scratched in Game 2 overtime loss in New York. With these lineup changes, the Hurricanes are determined to turn things around and secure a win in Game 3.
