After mass shooting, Oakland County prioritizes mental health resources for residents

In the aftermath of a mass shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, the community is focusing on mental health and well-being. Nine people were injured, including two children, in the shooting that occurred on June 15. The gunman took his own life hours later.

Oakland County officials have responded to the tragedy by making plans to assist those who may be struggling in the aftermath. Vigils are being organized and meal trains have been established for affected families. The Rochester Hills Department of Public Services building has been designated as a Family Assistance Center for those in need of support.

Therapists will be available for anyone seeking assistance starting Sunday at the Family Assistance Center on E Auburn Road. The Oakland County Health Network, which provided help in the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting, is mobilizing resources in Rochester Hills. Those in need of support can visit the center without an appointment, and therapists will be available Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

For those unable to visit the center, a nurse can be contacted at 800-848-5533 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The community is urged to reach out for help during this difficult time as they focus on healing and recovery together.

The investigation into the shooting continues as police work to determine what led to this tragic event and how it could have been prevented.
