Roanoke County Invests in Former Delta Dental Building for New Office Project

Acquisition of Starkey Road building to expand economic development initiative

Recently, economic developers in Roanoke County made a significant purchase of a Starkey Road office building for $1.9 million. The acquisition was made on May 17 for the former headquarters of Delta Dental of Virginia. Despite speculation about the nature of the new project, no county official has provided any specific details.

According to Amy Whittaker, a spokeswoman for the economic development authority of Roanoke County, the project will not be unveiled until summer. The two-story, 12,500-square-foot building was previously occupied by Delta Dental, which has since relocated to a larger facility on Airport Road.

County Administrator Richard Caywood has indicated that there are no plans to change the land-use category for the Starkey address. This suggests that the project may involve another office user moving into the building. Furthermore, the fact that the county purchased the furniture along with the building reinforces this idea. More information about the project is expected to be disclosed sometime this summer, according to Caywood.
