Rising Star Summer McIntosh Breaks World Record at Canadian Swim Trials and Secures Olympic Team Spot

In 2024, 17-year-old Summer McIntosh made a name for herself at the Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials. Initially, she was not happy with her performance in the 400 free, but she went on to break her own World Record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.38. This impressive feat earned her first place in the final and put her ahead of second-fastest swimmer Katinka Hosszu by a full second-and-a-half.

Comparing her splits from 2024 to 2023, McIntosh showed significant improvements, particularly in the breaststroke leg, which is her weakest stroke. Training with the Sarasota Sharks in Florida has given her a strong background in swimming, having been a four-time World Champion in long course events.

Despite facing tough competition, McIntosh’s dedication and talent have allowed her to excel in the pool and continue breaking records. She secured spots on the Canadian Olympic Team in the 400 free and 200 free earlier in the week, with remaining entries in the 200 fly and 200 IM. McIntosh’s impressive growth throughout the meet has earned her recognition as one of Canada’s top up-and-coming swimmers.
