Rising Star: Gazimagomed Jalidov Secures Spot at Paris 2024 Olympic Games with Epic Victory in Bangkok Boxing Tournament

2nd World Qualification Tournament for Boxing in 2024

Gazimagomed Jalidov, a light-heavyweight bronze medalist at the 2024 World Championships, took a step closer to securing his spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a points victory at the 2024 Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament in Bangkok. He dominated his Estonian opponent, Stiven Aas, with a 5-0 sweep of the judges’ cards, winning all five rounds 30-26.

Agnes Alexiusson from Sweden also began her journey with a win at the tournament, stopping her Kiribati opponent Teretia Toauriri in the first round with just over two minutes remaining on the clock. Meanwhile, Amy Broadhurst from Great Britain started her campaign with a resounding unanimous victory over Spain’s Sheila Martínez.

Jalidov is now one of three boxers vying for one of the last quota spots for Paris 2024 in the light-heavyweight class. The selection of athletes for the Olympic Games is ultimately at the discretion of National Olympic Committees, so participation depends on each NOC choosing to include them in their delegation.
