Rising from the Storm: Couple Survives Tornado, Loses Horse, but Remains Determined to Pursue Dream of Equine Therapy

Waterloo woman’s plans for equine therapy business derailed by tornado as she loses beloved horse

Victoria Fluhart and her husband, Justin, are recovering from a tragic event that occurred during a tornado in Waterloo. The couple had recently relocated to the area to establish an equine business on a property owned by Brandon Johnson of Jamico Construction. Just days before hosting an open house for her equine therapy business, the tornado struck, putting Victoria at risk as she rushed to save the horses on the property.

Sadly, Onyx, Victoria’s beloved mare and friend of 18 years, was found dead after the storm. Onyx had been more than just a horse to Victoria; she was a partner, champion, business partner, and therapist. Despite her grief over the loss, Victoria is determined to continue pursuing her dream of equine therapy in honor of Onyx.

The Fluharts have received support from the community in Waterloo and are working towards rebuilding their lives. They are grateful for the help with clean-up efforts and are looking forward to what the future holds for them. Although they face challenges in rebuilding their business, Victoria and Justin remain motivated to achieve their goals of hosting an open house for their equine therapy business.

Thanks to donations from members of the community, the Fluharts hope to have a small building constructed by summer where they can eventually host their open house. They may have faced hardships but their determination to rebuild and pursue their dreams remains strong.
