Rising Demand for Mental Health Services: Grand Mental Health Tackles Disparities and Stigma in Tulsa Metro

Mental Health Advocates in Tulsa Working to Close Service Gaps

Grand Mental Health, a dedicated organization in Green Country, aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in communities throughout Tulsa metro. Utilizing data from their campaign “Leading Change Advancing Care,” they pinpoint areas within the city that require the most resources. Collaborating with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, they identify communities in need, with a particular focus on east and north Tulsa.

The organization is working closely with community partners and residents to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. The goal is to address the gap between the number of people in need of services and those currently receiving them, which has become more apparent due to the pandemic. According to Ron Brady, a leader at Grand Mental Health, there is a significant disparity between the number of individuals requiring mental health services in Tulsa County and those actually accessing them. The organization has observed a 138 percent increase in the number of clients served from January to April, highlighting the growing demand for mental health resources in the area.
