Revolutionizing Weather Forecasting: Google and Weathernews Unveil ‘Google Nowcast’

Weathernews and Google collaborate on innovative AI-driven weather forecasting technology “Google Nowcast”

In collaboration with Google, Weathernews Inc has developed the “Google Nowcast” weather forecasting technology. This innovative tool will display rainfall predictions in five-minute increments up to 12 hours in advance on weather search results, starting in July 2024. Maya Ekron, who holds the position of Product Manager for Search at Google, worked on this project.

The development of this forecasting tool was made possible through Weathernews’ proprietary rainfall amount analysis data, which incorporates observation data from approximately 13,000 locations and weather reports submitted by users of the “Weathernews” app. By training Google’s AI prediction model with a combination of past rainfall data and real-time analysis from Weathernews, the companies have been able to achieve highly accurate forecasts.

This collaboration between Weathernews and Google highlights the power of leveraging AI technology to enhance weather forecasting capabilities and provide more precise and timely information to users. By combining their expertise and data analysis methods, the two companies have created a cutting-edge tool that will revolutionize how weather information is accessed and utilized in the future.
