Revolutionizing Voice Control: Volkswagen Integrates AI-Based Chat GPT into Its Next-Generation Infotainment System

Volkswagen Enhances Information and Entertainment Systems in Multiple Models with ChatGPT

Volkswagen has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) from Chat GPT into its next-generation infotainment system. This AI-based search tool is available on all new vehicles in the all-electric ID family, as well as the new Golf, Tiguan, and Passat. Customers can access it using the IDA voice assistant, which offers a range of new options that go beyond traditional voice control.

Existing Volkswagen customers with a VW Connect/VW Connect Plus account can use the IDA voice assistant without needing additional access or apps. The integration of Chat GPT into the voice assistant was showcased at the CES 2024 electronics fair in January 2024. The technology currently supports system languages such as US English, UK English, Spanish, Czech, and German. Volkswagen collaborated with automotive AI solutions company Cerence to make this technology possible, using Chat GPT to provide accurate responses to a wide range of questions.

According to Kai Grünitz, a member of Volkswagen’s Board of Directors responsible for Development, integrating Chat GPT into the voice assistant allows drivers to use artificial intelligence in their daily lives. Volkswagen aims to democratize technologies and make them accessible to a large number of people. The collaboration with Cerence has enabled the seamless integration of Chat GPT into the backend of the voice assistant, providing drivers with the opportunity to leverage AI capabilities while on the road.

With this new technology in place, customers can now interact with their cars using natural language and hear search results directly from within the car’s infotainment system. This will allow them to access information more quickly and easily than ever before.

Volkswagen’s move towards integrating AI into its vehicles is part of its ongoing efforts to stay at the forefront of automotive innovation. By partnering with leading tech companies like Cerence and incorporating cutting-edge technologies like Chat GPT into its products, Volkswagen is positioning itself as a leader in both sustainable transportation and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
