Revolutionizing the Retail Experience: Sam’s Club Introduces AI Receipt Verification for Scan and Go Shopping

By the end of 2024, the St. Cloud Sam’s Club will feature cutting-edge technology

Recently, Sam’s Club announced that they are introducing new technology to speed up the checkout process for their customers. The unique Scan and Go feature allows customers to scan their items as they shop, which is different from Costco. Now, Sam’s Club has replaced the manual receipt verification process by team members at the exit with an AI receipt verification system. The technology is being rolled out in around 120 stores across the United States, which is roughly 20% of their locations.

The new AI receipt verification system uses a combination of computer vision and digital technology to verify payments at the exit. The system is continuously learning and improving its process, so there may be some initial glitches as it is implemented in more stores. However, the initial test of this technology was conducted in Southern States and was deemed successful, prompting the plan to implement it in all Sam’s Club stores by the end of the year.

Customers who typically use the Scan and Go feature will not experience any changes to that system. The gradual rollout of the new technology is intended to ensure a smooth transition and address any potential issues that may arise along the way. With big-box stores closing down, innovative businesses and services have found creative ways to repurpose these vacant spaces. From experiential opportunities to new ventures, these adaptable spaces have the potential to support a variety of enterprises in local communities and economies.
