Revolutionizing the Checkout Experience: Sam’s Club’s AI-Powered Exit Technology

Sam’s Club continues to advance with AI-powered exit technology in stores

Sam’s Club, a Bentonville, Arkansas-based wholesale warehouse retailer, has made significant progress in implementing AI-powered exit technology at its stores. The company has successfully deployed computer vision technology at over 120 clubs since its unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

In the first quarter of this year, Sam’s Club rolled out the computer vision exit technology at 20% of its clubs, resulting in a 23% faster exit process for members. This new technology has enabled more than half of the members to have a friction-free exit experience. Todd Garner, the chief product officer at Sam’s Club, stated that this move aligns with the company’s commitment to enhancing member experiences using technology.

Sam’s Club is the first big box retailer to deploy this technology on a large scale and has designed and rolled it out in-house to address member complaints about the exit process. The implementation of exit technology and Scan & Go at Sam’s Club is driving new levels of convenience and increasing member satisfaction. By seamlessly implementing it across nearly 600 clubs nationwide, Sam’s Club is setting itself apart from its competitors by revolutionizing the checkout experience for members with single items or cartfuls of items.

The company plans to implement the exit technology in all clubs by the end of 2024 as part of its commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the member experience.
