Revolutionizing Stroke and Myocardial Infarction Treatment in Dong Thap: The Launch of a New On-Site Endovascular Intervention Unit

Dong Thap stroke patient escapes hospital transfer, jeopardizing crucial time

Dong Thap General Hospital has recently opened its first endovascular intervention unit, which provides quick treatment for stroke and myocardial infarction patients without the need for transfer to another hospital. This new unit was launched on May 22, with Mr. Doan Tan Buu, Director of Dong Thap Health Department, emphasizing the significance of the endovascular intervention technique for the province.

Currently, one to three patients requiring endovascular intervention are transferred to higher-level facilities daily. However, with the implementation of on-site endovascular intervention, this number is expected to decrease significantly. The on-site endovascular intervention will enhance the success rate and reduce the financial burden on patients.

The hospital’s endovascular intervention unit is a result of three years of training human resources, investing in equipment, and receiving technical transfer from the Cardiovascular Intervention Center of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. In recent weeks, Dong Thap General Hospital successfully performed an endovascular intervention for a patient at risk of stroke and conducted 4 angiograms.

Prof. Dr. Truong Quang Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Atherosclerosis, emphasized the importance of emergency treatment within the golden time of 4-6 hours from symptom onset for diseases related to endovascular issues. With the on-site endovascular intervention unit, patients in Dong Thap can receive timely emergency treatment using specialized equipment and techniques.

Endovascular intervention covers blood vessels in various parts of the body, including the brain, heart, organs, and limbs, for conditions such as aneurysms
