Revolutionizing Safe and Efficient Ammonia-Powered Shipbuilding: HD KSOE’s Cutting-Edge Technologies Showcased in Athens, Greece

New Ammonia-Powered Ship Technology Revealed by HD Korea Shipbuilding

HD KSOE recently presented its technologies for ammonia-powered ships at a forum in Athens, Greece, on May 31, 2024. The event was a prelude to the Posidonia 2024 exhibition, a major industrial fair in the city.

At the forum, HD KSOE unveiled new technology aimed at enhancing the safety of ammonia-fueled ships. The company’s innovative technology significantly reduces toxic gas emissions from ammonia fuel to nearly zero levels. Over 100 global shipbuilding and shipping industry representatives attended the event to learn about these advancements.

Ammonia-fueled ships have gained attention as carbon-free vessels, but ensuring the safe elimination of ammonia’s toxicity has been a crucial concern in their development. Companies like Euronav, Thenamaris, and NYK Line expressed strong interest in solutions to mitigate the risk of ammonia leakage, a major obstacle to the commercialization of ammonia as a viable marine fuel.

HD KSOE unveiled its proprietary Integrated Ammonia Scrubber technology, designed to absorb emitted ammonia in two stages, effectively reducing emissions to zero levels. Additionally, the company showcased its AI-based ship management system and remote drone system, which can detect even minute ammonia leaks in real-time when implemented on ammonia-fueled ships, thus preventing accidents.

With a track record of winning orders for four ammonia-fueled ships, including the world’s first two ammonia-propelled LPG carriers in 2023, HD KSOE continues to be at the forefront of innovation in eco-friendly shipbuilding technologies. The company’s dedication to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility shines through in its ongoing efforts to advance the industry.
