On April 2, the Milwaukee Brewers will launch their new parking system along with Opening Day. American Family Field will be equipped with license plate recognition technology that aims to make parking easier and more convenient for fans. Long lines at the parking lot have been a common frustration for baseball game attendees in the past, but this new system will significantly reduce wait times.
Jason Hartlund, chief commercial officer for the Brewers, emphasized the team’s commitment to enhancing the fan experience by implementing this new technology. The license plate recognition parking system is a unique feature in Major League Baseball and large sports facilities across the country. Cameras have been installed across the stadium parking lot to capture license plate information of each car entering, which will be securely stored in Interstate Parking’s system for up to 36 months.
Fans can now purchase pre-paid tickets through the MLB Ballpark app, which streamlines the parking process. Upon arrival, fans can simply scan a QR code to access the parking lot. For those purchasing a pass on the day-of, they will need to follow additional steps like scanning the QR code and entering credit card information. Hartlund highlighted that this new system will save fans time by reducing wait times significantly.
For those who do not have a smartphone, parking kiosks equipped with credit card or cash payments are available throughout the property. Both Brewers employees and Interstate Parking employees will be present in the parking lots during Opening Day and throughout the season to assist fans with any questions or concerns about using the new system. Despite initial apprehensions about unfamiliar processes, both organizations are optimistic that this new system will benefit fans and create longer pre-game celebrations at the stadium.
