Lake Erie College Receives $500,000 Grant to Advance Health-Science Initiatives

With a $500,000 award from the Ohio Senate, Lake Erie College is set to receive a significant boost to its health-science initiatives. The funding, part of the Capital Budget proposal Senate Bill 292, will be used to renovate and expand lab spaces, introduce new majors, and prioritize the addition of an exercise science program.

The goal of this project is to complement existing health science offerings and provide pathways for students interested in careers such as physical and exercise therapy, sports medicine, and more. Lake Erie College President Jennifer Schuller expressed gratitude for the support of State Rep. Jamie Callender and State Sen. Jerry Cirino in securing this funding. She noted that it will help attract new students and faculty members while keeping the college competitive.

Lake Erie College is planning to begin the search for founding faculty members in the coming months and launch the exercise science program in the fall of 2025. Johnathan Tedesco, dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, highlighted that the new major will build on Lake Eria
