Mount Sinai South Nassau Utilizes Cutting-Edge Technology for Epilepsy Treatment

Mount Sinai South Nassau has recently unveiled a new Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) on Long Island. This two-bed wing is equipped with advanced video-electroencephalogram (EEG) diagnostic technology and digital video monitors. The EMU also has a team of specialists including epileptologists, neuroradiologists, nurses, social workers, and EEG technicians to provide comprehensive care to patients.

The unit is designed to help diagnose the cause of epileptic seizures in patients admitted to it. They may need to undergo EEGs and other tests during this monitoring period, which can last up to five days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are 215,000 New Yorkers living with active epilepsy, with over 35,000 of them residing on Long Island.

This new facility is a significant development for individuals living with epilepsy on Long Island.
