Revolutionary Weapons Detection Technology Deployed by RTC to Improve Safety on Public Transit

RTC is the first transportation agency to deploy a new technology developed by ZeroEyes, which uses artificial intelligence to detect weapons displayed in a threatening manner and alert law enforcement within three seconds. The move comes after several high-profile incidents, including a deadly shooting on a double-decker bus in 2017 and a murder on a bus in recent years.

RTC CEO MJ Maynard stated that the organization takes pride in identifying transportation challenges and implementing solutions to improve safety and security for the tens of thousands of people who depend on the transit system every day. RTC completed an $8 million project to upgrade cameras on its buses in 2022 and also increased security measures by adding more security guards following violent crimes in recent years.

United Safety CEO Joseph Mirabile expressed excitement about RTC partnering with ZeroEyes to enhance public safety on the transit system. ZeroEyes CEO Mike Lahiff commended RTC for becoming the nation’s first transit agency to widely deploy weapons detection analytics and emphasized the importance of working together to continue enhancing public safety. Nevada law requires a concealed-carry permit to possess a weapon, and RTC further restricts the carrying or possessing of illegal weapons as defined by law.
