Revolutionary Technology Reduces Toxic Gas Emissions from Ammonia-Fueled Vessels at Posidonia 2023

New scrubber technology revealed for ships powered by ammonia at Posidonia exhibition

At this year’s Posidonia event in Athens, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering unveiled a new technology that significantly reduces toxic gas emissions from ammonia fuel. This advancement is essential for the development of ammonia-fuelled vessels worldwide as the challenge has always been to safely eliminate the toxicity of ammonia when used as fuel.

The proprietary integrated scrubber technology introduced by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is designed to absorb emitted ammonia, ensuring that toxic gas emissions are reduced to nearly zero. The exhaust outlets have been strategically placed away from where the crew resides for added safety.

With shipbuilders enjoying extensive orderbooks, a strong showing is anticipated at this year’s Posidonia showcase. In fact, Posidonia 2024 is set to be the largest in the event’s six decades of existence, with organizers confirming that 2,030 exhibitors from 82 countries will be presenting their offerings at the Athens Metropolitan Expo.
